If you are fostering, planning to adopt, or already parenting a child of a different race or culture, Culturally Fluent Families supports you on the journey of discovering how to connect to your child’s cultural heritage. The goal is to help your children develop a positive racial and cultural identity. We teach families how to identify and deal with racism, manage privilege, and most importantly navigate confidently between your culture of origin and that of your child. We use a six stage Model of Cultural Fluency to help families connect to cultural mirrors and community supports that enhance their self-esteem.
Valarie also created and facilitates over 1,000 members in Culturally Fluent Latinx and another 4,500 members in the CFF- Black Hair and Skin Care group. The ultimate goal of these groups is to give parents the tools to positively affirm their children and help them develop a strong racial and cultural identity.
